There are three variables in hitting a baseball: 1) A baseball (or the light reflecting off of the baseball) as it travels toward home plate. 2) The space between the pitcher's mound and home plate. 3) The human brain's perception of both. Over 70% of the bodies sensory receptors are in the eyes and because of this we are predominately visual learners. Showing hitter's what the core hitting zone looks like is much different than telling them. The imaginary "V" serves as a focal point of reference during the initial training of the strike zone. We speak of the V as imaginary because the eyes can't see it, but the brain recognizes it as a "real" area or zone because of the energy being produced by V-Flex in this v-shaped location. V-Flex has the ability to generate enough brain activity so the brain can build associations between certain pitches and the energized zone which correlates into a well-defined strike zone once learned.
The seven baseballs inside the "V" represent the pitches which will become strikes as they cross home plate. During the first phase of training, V-Flex is placed 12' in front of home plate to insure that the seven pitches passing through the energized zone are strikes 100% of the time. These seven pitches will become the 33 pitch "Core" hitting zone at home plate. The comprehensive training provided by the V-Flex, brain-based hitting system, helps each hitter develop more than one reference point along the path of the ball in flight toward home plate for identifying the pitches they should attack. (See phases 1, 2, and 3 under the Models section of this website)
By giving the hitter more than one reference point along the path of the ball, we can greatly increase his odds of swinging at strikes. Therefore, we train hitters by using V-Flex at 12 ft., 21 ft. and 35 ft. The brain has been telling us for years it needs more information to consistently hit the ball better. The only muscle we haven't been able to train correctly is the brain. You can't do it with computer animation or by talking to your hitters, you must give the brain a visual stimulus in real time, in an enriched environment, forcing the brain to flex or exercise. This patented teaching model sets the standard for teaching strike zone development. Training hitters to swing at strikes is our top priority with V-Flex and schools and academies that adopt this teaching model will see players develop better strike zone awareness which will result in more quality at bats by all trained with the V-Flex Hitting System.
